Makeup Mayhem With Courtney Hughes: Bronzed Beauty

Regardless of your skin tone, everyone needs a little color on their face. If you wear foundation or powder, you are making the skin one even tone. While we all have natural color in our face, neutralizing this color can make you look sick, tired, or just plain boring!  So you need to add some depth. Whether it's blush (my favorite beauty item) or bronzer, just put something on those adorable cheeks! Here are some tips on applying bronzer to your precious mug....

Step 1-Choose a bronzer that is one to two shades deeper than your skin tone. Make sure it is not too shimmery.

Step 2- Apply the bronzer with a fluffy powder brush to the top of the forehead, cheekbones (framing the face), and a little on the nose and neck.

Step 3- If you wear blush, apply after the bronzer to the apples of your cheeks.

Adding bronzer to your face is a great way to achieve a sun-kissed, faux-glow look. Not to mention you will look more attractive in pictures. Since we all can't live like the Kardashian chicks, sunbathing in Miami every weekend, sometimes we have to fake it. Don't worry, secret's safe with me. Here's to Miami!!... Muah!

Wellness Wednesday With Lauren: Goat Cheese Salad and Tomato Basil Soup

I am still recovering from my whirlwind trip to San Francisco.  So, I figured I'd get back into the swing of things with a great healthy recipe I recently tried.  Great for getting back in shape for beach wear season!  BTW...Tiffany - when is that post coming??  I need to purchase fabulous beach/swim wear for when I go to the beach in June.

Goat Cheese Salad:
Ingredients:
-  Spring salad/spinach salad
-  Short log of herb goat cheese
-  Almonds, pistachios or pine nuts, chopped
-  Red seedless grapes, halved
-  Freshly ground black pepper

Instructions:
-  Roll 6 1-inch pieces of goat cheese into a ball
-  Lay out nuts and role goat cheese to coat
-  Serve goat cheese topping over salad with halved grapes, top with black pepper and your favorite balsamic vinaigrette.

Tomato Basic Soup:
We got this recipe from Food Network, however we modified to the recipe below:

Ingredients:
-  1 (14 oz.) can chopped tomatoes
-  3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
-  Salt and freshly ground black pepper
-  1 yellow onion, diced
-  2 cloves garlic, minced
-  1 cup chicken broth
-  1/4 cup chopped fresh basil leaves or 2 tablespoons dried basil
-  2 tablespoons butter

Instructions:
-  Preheat oven to 450 degrees
-  Strain the chopped canned tomatoes, reserving the juices in a bowl, and spread onto a baking sheet, season with salt and pepper, drizzle with 1/4 cup of the olive oil and roast until caramelized (about 10 - 15 minutes)
-  While tomatoes are roasting... in a saucepan, heat remaining olive oil over medium-low heat.  Add the onion and garlic, cook until softened (about 10 minutes)
-  Add the roasted chopped caned tomatoes, reserved tomato juices, chicken broth, and butter.  SImmer until vegetables are very tender (about 15 minutes)
-  Add basil
-  Pour mixture into a blender and puree allowing for some steam to escape from the top.  Serve immediately.

Enjoy!
Lauren

butter LONDON Non-Toxic Nail Polish

While reading the April issue of W Magazine, a nail color by butter LONDON caught my attention. I'd never heard of the brand so I did some research.

butter LONDON is all about natural nail care products without those chemical nasties! They coined the term, "3 Free". Which means no formaldehyde, no toluene, and no DBP (Phthales). The British founder, Sasha Murir, was grossed out by the number of toxic ingredients in U.S. cosmetic products. (If this bothered her, imagine how she'd feel if she found out what was in U.S. fast food LOL!)

I love the Jelly collection. They go on sheer and are like wet “lipgloss” for your nails. They are designed to be layered, so you can wear just one coat for a hint of color and healthy glow, or two for a bit more color, or three for jelly, barely sheer summer colors. They are also great when mixed and matched over one another! So many options in three bottles!

21 Gun Salute to Military Chic Fashion

Spring isn't just about floral dresses, bright colors, and sexy sandals. Military silhouettes and colors are sticking around for spring. Designers expanded the trend to the basics; t-shirts, sandals, cargo's, shorts and jackets. Hands down Balmain did it the best. Their SS 2010 Ready-to-Wear collection was sick. Check out the video below!!!! Made me want to stand and salute Christophe Decarnin.

The cool thing about this trend is that it can be budget friendly. Here are some looks for less inspired by Balmain.

The Sh!t Is Bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S

Literally.........I saw the Christian Louboutin Banana Peep-toe Pumps a month ago at Neiman's, and I can't stop thinking about them. I've made every attempt possible to not stalk them online or go into Saks, but it's getting really hard for me to resist.

I swore I had a dream about them last night. Could I have ESP??? The dream went like this: I drop kicked the door down (gotta make an entrance), told the SA that I'll take one in every color. She asked how was a paying? I replied "charge it to tha game"..... the fashion game that is. HAHAHA..... They are the perfect way to ring in spring.
