In the words and southern drawl of Whitley Gilbert from A Different World, 'relax, relate, release'- it's Friday! My all time favorite sitcoms were birthed in the 80's-The Cosby Show, A Different World and Golden Girls. As the ol' folks say, 'they just don't make um like they use too.' NBC was the place to be....Thursday night was Cosby at 8 and A Different World at 8:30. Saturday night was Golden Girls.
A Different World was the first and maybe the only sitcom that highlighted student life at a historically black college- Hillman. Remember The Pit?? The show also tackled political and social issues that were rarely discussed on other comedy sitcoms- AIDS, rape, race, social classes, etc. It's so hard to pick a favorite episode because they all were so good. The show was embedded with culture, fashion, history, music and a message!
All 6 seasons of A Different World are now available on DVD. This would make an excellent Christmas gift. What's your favorite 80's sitcom??
