I'm A Sole Man

Last week I went to the hair salon and read some old magazines from April and May. Don't you hate that??? It was partly my fault as I left my book at home, and this older women was hording the new mags. Vanity Fair's May issue featured an article, written by Vanessa Grigoriadis, about the "Godfather of Sole" himself-Christian Louboutin.

To sum up the article, Louboutin said he doesn't believe in advertising, rarely gives shoes away to celebs, and said his business grew by double digits in 2009. Interesting considering the economic meltdown. Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz said he once painted the red soles black for one of his early shows. “At the time, I thought the red sole was too strong for my collection,” says Elbaz. “So I painted them black — a great mistake! He almost killed me.” Though Elbaz has stopped, Martha Stewart started. Apparently she has someone on staff who uses a black sharpie to cover up the red sole. #icanteven

He also highlights his "super top customer", Danielle Steel. You know, the uber famous drama writer. She has an astonishing 6,000+ pair. He says “She comes to Paris, and she literally buys everything. Then she flies back to New York, says, ‘I’m a little disappointed — there’s nothing in the store,’ and walks out with 80 pairs,” he grinned. “She is super.”

Yeah, super rich. All those books, and made for TV movies (For the record, I can watch Jewels every time it comes on Lifetime) have made her one rich chick! #iaintmadatcha!
