Looks like the wait is over-Manhattan is finally getting a Target. To celebrate the East Harlem store opening, Target is sticking to what it does best, designer collaborations! Isabel and Ruben Toledo designed a line of beachwear with great artwork. Isabel Toledo's name probably sounds familiar to you, as she designed the famed lemongrass ensemble Michelle Obama wore on Inauguration day.

Isabel and Ruben Toledo beach towels, $24.99.
Isabel and Ruben Toledo sarong, $24.99.

Isabel and Ruben Toledo triangle bikini top and bottom, $17.99 each.

Target also collaborated with Stephen Burrows who has great color-blocked dresses, and celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson brings us brightly colored kitchen accessories. The East Harlem store opens on July 25, and us non-NYC folks can get our hands on these items in select stores and on Target.com on August 1.

I'm A Sole Man

Last week I went to the hair salon and read some old magazines from April and May. Don't you hate that??? It was partly my fault as I left my book at home, and this older women was hording the new mags. Vanity Fair's May issue featured an article, written by Vanessa Grigoriadis, about the "Godfather of Sole" himself-Christian Louboutin.

To sum up the article, Louboutin said he doesn't believe in advertising, rarely gives shoes away to celebs, and said his business grew by double digits in 2009. Interesting considering the economic meltdown. Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz said he once painted the red soles black for one of his early shows. “At the time, I thought the red sole was too strong for my collection,” says Elbaz. “So I painted them black — a great mistake! He almost killed me.” Though Elbaz has stopped, Martha Stewart started. Apparently she has someone on staff who uses a black sharpie to cover up the red sole. #icanteven

He also highlights his "super top customer", Danielle Steel. You know, the uber famous drama writer. She has an astonishing 6,000+ pair. He says “She comes to Paris, and she literally buys everything. Then she flies back to New York, says, ‘I’m a little disappointed — there’s nothing in the store,’ and walks out with 80 pairs,” he grinned. “She is super.”

Yeah, super rich. All those books, and made for TV movies (For the record, I can watch Jewels every time it comes on Lifetime) have made her one rich chick! #iaintmadatcha!

Paris Fashion Week

While I'm trying to beat the heat in the states, the fashion elite are enjoying Paris Fashion week. I was in Paris during Fashion week when I studied abroad in 2001. I had an opportunity to see shows for Elie Saab, YSL, and some other designers I can't remember :). To bad I was WAY to silly and young to appreciate it. If only I had a hot tube time machine.....

Here are some photos....

Dita Von Teese with Jean Paul Gaultier. I think she ONLY wears 4inch Louboutins and Burlesque clothing!

Solange Knowles Secret Style Weapon

"cause if u could have Beyonce would u take Solange" - Fabulous

IDK about all of that, but Solange has been rocking a super cute natural hairstyle and her fashion is refreshing. She recently did a feature for Refinery 29 and has one of the best quotes I've read in a really long time:

"What's your secret style weapon?
Shoes! I'm all about the shoes! I order a ton of them online and play with my entire wardrobe until I find the right shoe. Unfortunately, so many people get it right from the head until the ankles. The shoe is very important. I can't even fuck with you if your shoe game is slacking."

Check out the photos below, and you can read the article here:

Oh Baby.....Designer Diaper Wars

My friend Lauren shared the most hilarious thing with me a couple weeks ago- Huggies denim inspired diapers. By now, I'm sure everyone has seen the commercial with the tag line, "The coolest you'll look pooping in your pants." While I don't have any children, for poops and giggles I want to buy some and give them to a baby, cause the kid above swagger is so strong you would think he is rocking some G-Stars. I think this is where Lady GaGa got her fashion inspiration for no pants- from 15 month old babies.

This morning I was catching some beauty rest with the TV on, and was startled by a segment on "The Today Show" dedicated to diapers. It appears Pampers is getting in on the diaper trend, and hired designer Cynthia Rowley to design a collection for Target. The collection will include 11 designs for boys and girls including pastel madras, stripes, and printed ruffles. I guess their tag line should be "If you're going to poop it should be in style." I'm just thankful there are more options than cloth diapers, cause LAWWD I wouldn't be able to be in a 3 ft radius of a little kid.

What's next, couture diapers designed by Chanel, Dior and Armani accompanied by a Mercedez Benz fashion show for kids. Probs.....

Makeup Mayhem With Courtney Hughes: Red Bottom Nails...oh my!

Although makeup is my thing, I am also obsessed with fingernail polish. My mom taught me long ago how to bang out a homemade manicure, and I have been doing my own nails and toes ever since. I prefer natural nails myself, but I may be changing my mind soon with this latest nail trend: THE LOUBOUTIN MANICURE!!! OMG! Inspired by his signature RED bottoms, this wicked nail trend consists of a single color of your choice on the topside of your nails, with red lacquer painted on the bottom of the nail. This look is best with a long, oval nail (Rihanna style) so the red bottom really stands out. Created by Zoe Pocock from the Daniel Galvin Salon in London, this trend is popping up everywhere. I have yet to see anyone in North Cackawacka rockin' this style, however I am on the look out. I am diggin' an all black shiny nail with the red underneath...to mimic my black Louboutin Decollettes. SO HOT! I may have to treat myself to this mani on my next trip to NYC. So if you are bold and daring with a slight Louboutin obsession...go for it! As long as people don't start rockin' red bottom toe nails...now that would be nasty!
