Disco Fashion...Sequins!

I'm so happy the Queen of Disco, Donna Summers, thought sequins were fashionable. I'm also happy that designers recognized it, and brought them back last year! In the winter, I wore sequin leggings. This spring, I think a cute sequin skirt, paired with a white tank, or a sequin playsuit, is a perfect outfit for going out! Here are a few of my faves.....

 Haute Hippie Skirt, $182

DKNY Playsuit, $595
 French Connection, $198

Dolce Vita Jumper, $162

MCM....Don't Call It A Come Back, I Been Here for Years!

I'm an 80's baby, so I  vividly remember MCM-then known as Michael Cromer Munich, now known as Mode Creation Munich. Everyone had something MCM; fannypack, hat, jacket, bag, or coin purse. Looking back, half of the MCM people wore, was probably A+ super fake....HAHA. I had a white and navy blue purse that I would rock extra hard over my shoulder, and my mom had a speedy bag that I wanted so bad. I need to find them next time I go home (my mom throws NOTHING away).

Back in March, I read an article in WSJ about MCM's new CEO Sung-Joo Kim, one of Asia's most powerful business women. She was discussing the companies resurrection in the US. When I was in NYC, I peeped the new collection at Saks; wasn't good/extensive. Forget there was a store on 58th and Fifth Ave....ughhhhh. Next time! Here's some pieces from their 2010 collection.

Wellness Wednesday: Reebok Easy Tone Sneakers

I've never been a huge fan of Reebok shoes for working out. I'm a Nike or New Balance chick. However, the Reebok Easy Tone sneaker caught my attention a while back. Anything that can assist my workout by toning my butt and legs without increasing reps or miles, is worth researching. I asked around and learned Easy Tone sneakers were ideal for walking, not running or fitness classes. So I dismissed them as a viable workout shoe. Reebok recently created a new sneaker, Reebok RunTone Action, which is adapted for running, toning, and working out.

According to the website, Easy Tone Run Action has 8 balance pods/balls filled with moving air, designed to create natural instability and encourage toning. It states it improves muscle tone in the hamstrings, calves and glutes up to 28%.

Reebok allows you to customize sneakers, and they are available for men. So you and your boo can stride in style.

P.S. Just in case you were contemplating the Sketcher Shape Ups, the Reebok's are definitely a better look!

Oxford On My Mind....Shoes that is :)

I must admit, wingtip/brogue/oxford shoes have grown on me. They are a perfect match for jeans, cute ankle pants at work, or even a floral little summer dress. I had to get them situated in my mind as I had a fashion incident with them back in the spring of 88'. I remember it like it was yesterday......

I was at West Oxford Elementary School (where dreams were formed HAHA) and looked down at my shoes. To my surprise, I had worn mismatched oxfords-one brown/white, one black/white. I was devastated to the point I lied to my teacher and told her I had an emergency and needed to call my grandfather. I was an A+ nerd so she had no reason to believe I was lying. Thankfully my grandfather could tell from my voice that I was experiencing my first fashion emergency, so he brought me the matching shoe.

So 22 years later, I found some new faves. But I'm sticking to one color...

Martin Margiela Lace Up Oxford, $660

Aldo Lahaie Shoes, $80

J. Crew Camden Suede Brouges, $250

Nine West Brazen, $150

Church's Burwood Metallic Brogues, $425

Kouture by Kimora

I love Kimora Lee Simmons. I think she's a great business women, and oozes fabulosity! I watch her show "Life In The Fab Lane" and last night I learned she recently partnered with Macy's to create a trendy recession-proof fashion line called Kouture by Kimora. Apparently the line has been in stores since March. I don't shop in Macy's a lot, but the items look great online and are reasonable priced. I'll have to go in soon to check it out. While the line is geared towards Juniors, I think a few of the pieces can cross over to us adults! HAHA

One-Shoulder Leopard Ruched Mini, $24.99

Sleeveless Cowl Painterly Mini, $34.99

Sleeveless Corset Floral Mini, $34.99

Sleeveless Studded K Shif, $19.99

Eye Spy

This morning I woke up and my glasses weren't on my nightstand. I panicked! The thought of wearing RX sunglasses everywhere scared me. Thankfully I found them in my linen closet..HAHA! I recently had to get eyeglasses to cure my nearsightedness. Driving and watching TV were becoming darn near impossible. While I LOVE my Paul Smith spectacles, after a mere 2 months, I am SOOOO ready for LASIK. I'm giving myself a year to get adjusted to my new vision.

I purchased I pair of Barton Perreira RX sunglasses for those sunny moments. The company was created by two former execs from Oliver Peoples. Check out their website for practical glasses. But today, I am loving the jeweled collection. Diamonds range in size from 1.7 CT - 3.50 CT with price ranging $27,000 and up!

I also love the limited edition Bernhard Willhelm/Mykita sunglasses that SJP wears in the SATC2 movie. But the gold mirror tint isn't an option for RX frames...can't decide if that is a good or bad thing:) P.S.- The Chanel bag is hot too!

Repsect Your Mother-Happy Earth Day

Today marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. It's a day to think about your conservation efforts and make a commitment to help preserve the planet. There are so many activities going on, but making a simple committment is just as important. Here are some suggestions:

1. Recycle- Duh? Who's not doing this!

2. Reuse- bring you own mug to Starbucks or to work, purchase a reusable water bottle and grocery bag. I try to walk to the grocery store, and if you are able to do the same, I highly recommend purchasing an insulated tote.
Built® Market Tote, $19.98 (sale); Target Contingo BPA Free Water Bottle, $12.99

3. Save energy at home with energy-saving appliances or light bulbs.

4. By local-this cuts down on air pollution caused by food and good transportation. Look for this logo on your grocery items.

5.  Pass on gas! My commute from near downtown Raleigh to Durham is brutal on the air, my car, and my time sitting in traffic! So I am going to try Triangle Transit this summer (at least 1 day).

I would love to plant a tree in my neighborhood, but the home owners association Prez will flip out! He takes his job VERY seriously. I once left my recylce bin on the curb for 4 days. It didn't have my condo number on it but it magically appeared on my back doorstep. I think he must have worked for the government, because that was an FBI agent move.

So, what are you doing to preserve the planet??

Eugenia Kim for Target

ATTENTION Target, you must stop with the designer collaborations for the month of April, as I suffer from ibuywaytoomuchsh!tidontneedattar-zheyism!

I blogged about Eugenia Kim in January. For those not familiar with Kim, she designed the floppy hat Jennifer Lopez wore to the American Music Awards in 2001.

Eugenia Kim for Target Collection was inspired by Havana, Cuba, and is scheduled to hit stores April 18- June 20. Her couture line normally sells for around $200, but of course Target is bringing chic hats to us at a great value, $14.99-$19.99.

I accidentally placed my fedora in my suitcase (in a hurry), and of course it was smashed. So I have my eye on the black  and mint green fedora. Perfect for summer!
